December in Japan

First Visitors

Kate and Troy came to visit us a few weeks back, and we had a great time! By surprise, they decided last minute they wanted to come, and it worked out perfect. Troy had been to Japan before, so it made it a bit easier for them, I am sure. They ventured out some days on their own, and some days we were able to join.

One of our main visits was to Kamakura. We were wanting to visit Kamakura for a while, as we had heard great things. It is a beautiful city located about 50km from Tokyo. It is a popular spot, for it's temples and also that it is right on the beach. I really loved it, as I have been wanting to go to a beach for some time. Kate and I took off our shoes and socks and enjoyed the cool ocean water on our feet. We visited a nice, funky bar by the water, and also visited the Great Buddha. "The bronze statue probably dates from 1252, in the Kamakura period, according to temple records". It has withstood many storms and even a Tsunami.

Kate and Troy also visited Kyoto while they were here, and we all drove up to Mt. Fuji. All and all it was a great visit!

Oh yes, we also visited the Robot Bar. I won't add to many pictures as it is a bit frisky :) It was a great place to visit. They put on a 90 minute, intense show with lots of drums, ladies, lights, pandas, robots, and much more, LOL! Here is one picture of the lounge we went to, after the show.

 Making Chopsticks

I went to another class, and this time Brooke and Graham joined me. Graham and I both made a pair of chopsticks from Tokyo Cedar. It took over an hour to chisel away the wood, and I got a blister while doing it, however it was still a great time!

I already shared this with some of you. Here is a youtube video of the class.

Kids Castle

Today Brooke and I visited Kids Castle. She played in the cardboard box houses, slides, with the dolls, and we listened to a music show. We had a great time. We still try to get out a few times a week, as the weather is still 12-15 degrees, so it's nice to venture out.

This weekend we have two Kids Christmas parties to go to, so it should be a lot of fun. Brooke is getting really excited about Santa this year, which makes the Christmas season so much more exciting. Our friends Cherry, Taka, and their son Rino are going to join us for Christmas dinner!!! We are very excited about this. They will get to try a Canadian Chrismtas dinner (no KFC at this household, LOL), and we will get to try Japanese Christmas Cake, that they will bring. The best part is Brooke and her bestfriend Rino will get to play and celebrate Christmas together. We are all really looking forward to this. Cherry was so surprised and excited that we invited her and her family.

We will for sure miss our family over the Christmas season, but will find ways to keep in touch with you all.

Bye for now, xoxo
